About Us
Mission Statment
The goal of the Friends of the Duarte Library is to promote community support for the library and to provide funds to supplement the purchase of books, special programs and material to better reach out and serve all residents. Donation to the Friends of the Duarte Library will go directly to help continue these activities and are greatly appreciated.
Friends of the Duarte Library History
The Friends of the Duarte Library now has over 40 members and a hard working group of people for its board. But it wasn’t always that way. With a nucleus of members from the Duarte Woman’s Club, the Friends of the Duarte Library was formed, and in 1961, Mrs. Aloysia Moore was elected first permanent president. Mrs. Moore, who had been instrumental in the formation of library service in Duarte, was appointed as Library Regional Council Member to the Advisory Board for the County Library. Mrs. Moore promptly began plans to provide a larger facility and with the considerable help of the Woman’s Club, the County Librarian, William Geller and his staff as well as the citizens of Duarte, a new facility was dedicated in 1966.

Attend Events
With the aid of volunteens performing community service, the Friends have marched in the Route 66 Parade, and participated in the City Picnic, Fireworks sale, and the Concerts in the Park in Duarte. By attending community events you help support FDL and other organizations.
Our main event of the year, the Festival of Authors brought in 55 authors in 2010. It was a success with the help of our teen groups, school principals, Duarte Women’s Club and attendance by our council members. Mark your calendar this year for the 9th Annual Festival of Authors October 1st 2011.
